Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore additional income management strategies for maintaining the financial stability of porang farming households in Bulukumpa District, Bulukumba Regency, where farmers face relatively long harvesting periods and fluctuating commodity prices.
Research Methodology: This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving porang farmers who earned additional income. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.

Results: The findings reveal that farmers generated additional income from both agricultural and non-agricultural activities, including cultivating other crops, working as agricultural laborers, construction workers, livestock farming, and small-scale trading. This additional income was managed based on priority needs to cover household expenses, educational costs, savings, emergency funds, and farming capital. Income diversification, supported by planned financial management, helped maintain household cash flow, reduce the risk of income instability, and sustain both farming activities and family economic well-being.

Conclusions: Income diversification and priority-based financial management are essential strategies for strengthening the financial stability of porang farming households.

Limitations: This study adopted a qualitative approach with a limited number of informants and therefore did not quantitatively measure the contribution of additional income to household financial stability.

Contribution: This study provides empirical evidence on additional income management strategies that can serve as a reference for promoting financial literacy, farmer empowerment, and the formulation of policies aimed at enhancing the economic resilience of porang farming households.
