Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the implementation of accounting practices at Resna Boarding House in Bumi Tamalanrea Permai, Makassar City, focusing on financial management, transaction recording, and financial reporting, while comparing its practices with similar boarding house businesses to identify opportunities for improving business efficiency.

Research Methodology: A qualitative case study approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive-interpretative analysis supported by a review of relevant literature.

Results: The findings reveal that accounting practices have not been properly implemented. Transaction recording is limited to rental income, business and personal finances are not separated, expense records are absent, and financial statements are not prepared in accordance with the Financial Accounting Standards for Micro, Small, and Medium Entities (SAK EMKM). Similar conditions have also been identified in previous studies of boarding house businesses in Indonesia.

Conclusions: Implementing a simple accounting system based on SAK EMKM is essential to improve financial transparency, accountability, efficiency, and access to formal financing.

Limitations: This study examines only one boarding house business, limiting the generalizability of the findings.

Contribution: This study offers practical recommendations for implementing simple bookkeeping and financial reporting systems while enriching the limited empirical literature on MSME accounting practices in the lodging service sector.
